Reasonable Use
Paymentology reserves the right to monitor and track API calls for the purpose of ensuring that your use of API calls is reasonable, proportionate and consistent with normal business practices, what is commonly known as "Reasonable Use”.
Often, any use that is repetitive and automated, or runs on some sort of scheduled script, can be considered contrary to Reasonable Use. Instead, API calls should ordinarily be made only when initiated by a specific user interaction, such as a cardholder operating the app or performing a transaction.
However, even under these circumstances, there are recommended implementations that ensure your app is “well-behaved”. For example, there is no reason to look up every card when a user logs in. Rather wait until the user specifically requests to see the full card list.
We don’t define the correct behaviour for every interaction because there can be so many different variables, but if you’re not sure, please enquire with our Implementations team during your app development in order to avoid any issues.
We will let you know if any API calls are identified as exceeding Reasonable Use so that you can take corrective action, and if no changes are made you may then be subject to additional Fees or may be limited or blocked if the need arises.
