Card to account mapping

A card is a financial instrument enabling access to funds via POS or ATMs and making payments. The card could be physical or virtual and is usually associated with an account.

At a high level, there are three card types:

  • Prepaid card
  • Debit card
  • Credit card

An account is the record of transactions over a financial period and the resulting balance. A parent account is an account that can have one or more accounts below it. It allows clients to set up a hierarchical relationship.

Card-to-account mapping

An account does not need to have a card associated with it. However, when it is, there's an n-n mapping between the card and accounts. These are the two main configurations in Banking.Live:

One card to multiple accounts

We can have multiple accounts assigned to a single card.

This can also be in different currencies:

Multiple cards to one account

An account can be linked to more than one card simultaneously provided the account is from the same list of accounts for that customer.
